UPDATE: Police charge Honolulu man with drug offenses after recovering 5 pounds of methamphetamine
Update 4 p.m. on Sept. 15: Hawaiʻi police and the Hawaiʻi County Prosecutor’s Office have conferred to charge 29-year-old Sione Misinale, of Honolulu, with methamphetamine-related drug offenses among others.
At 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, Vice Section officers, in coordination with Homeland Security Investigations, stopped a vehicle driven by Misinale. He was arrested, and the vehicle was recovered pending a search warrant. following a traffic stop in Kea‘au.
Misinale was charged with the following offenses:
• Two counts of first-degree promotion of a Dangerous Drug
• Criminal littering
• Driving without a valid driver’s license
• No motor vehicle insurance
His bail was set at $502,000. Misinale is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, in South Hilo District Court.

Original story 10:47 a.m. on Sept. 15: An O‘ahu man is facing drug charges after a search of his vehicle yielded nearly 6 pounds of suspected methamphetamine.
The incident occurred on Sept. 10 when Hawai‘i Island police made a traffic stop in East Hawai‘i, where Sione Misinale, 29, of Honolulu, was an occupant. According to a press release from police, Vice officers later executed a narcotics search warrant upon an Audi sedan. They recovered a combined total of 2,668.95 net grams or 5.88 pounds of a substance that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

Misinale remains in custody in lieu of $502,000 bail and is slated to make his initial appearance in Hilo District Court today.
The 29-year-old is facing first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug, which are both class A felonies.
These offenses carry a penalty of either a 20-year prison term or 10 years probation and up to two years in jail.
Misinale was also charged with criminal littering, driving without a license and no no-fault insurance.
