North Kohala house fire leaves residents displaced

Residents in North Kohala were displaced after a home was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze, located on the 53-4100 block of Akoni Pule Highway, at 12:06 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they found a single-family residence 90% involved in flames.

All occupants had already evacuated the building. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters’ main objective was to contain, extinguish the fire and protect all exposures. The home was overhauled and all hidden fires were extinguished.

Seventeen firefighters responded to the blaze. Cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
