Employers Council offer essential workplace skills training on Hawaiʻi Island this fall

Two in-person workplace training series will be offered in Hilo and in Kona over the next two months.

The Hawaiʻi Employers Council is hosting its Essential Skills for Thriving in the Workplace Series, which is four courses designed to support the growth and development of employees in non-leadership roles.

Through courses that are interactive and practical, employees will hone essential soft skills that will empower them to thrive in any position and contribute more effectively to their teams and organizations.

The courses include:

  • Using Emotional Intelligence to Strengthen Work Relationships
  • Communicating with Intention for Meaningful Outcomes
  • Fostering Trust through Personal Accountability
  • Critical Thinking for Creative Problem Solving

“Employers tell us they need team members who can communicate clearly, problem-solve, and work well with others,” said Leslie Gibo, manager of talent and organizational development at Hawaiʻi Employers Council. “These sessions give Hawaiʻi Island employees actionable skills they can apply away.”

Both Hilo and Kona sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and will cost $180 for members of the Hawaiʻi Employers Council, or $90 through the Employment and Training Fund program. The fee for nonmembers is $390, or $195 through the program. Lunch will be provided on both days and registration will close at 6:30 a.m. the day before.

The Hilo session will be at the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center on Friday, Sept. 19, and the Kona session will be at the Royal Kona Resort Discovery Room on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The Employment and Training Fund program application is due on Sept. 5 or Oct. 22.

Learners who complete all four courses will receive a digital certificate of completion and shareable badge. Both workshops will be facilitated by Christina Tamaru, a trainer with talent and organizational development at Hawaiʻi Employers Council.
