Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting units will conduct live-fire training exercises at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keāhole from Wednesday to Friday this week.

Fire fighting units will be testing response protocols to a live emergency scenario involving burning fuel from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. All appropriate safety precautions will be in place throughout the exercise.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies the public they may see smoke and emergency vehicles during the exercise. Depending on the wind direction, smoke may blow inland.

The training is required for Hawaiʻi airports to maintain Federal Aviation Administration standards. All flight operations will continue as normal.
