Emergency repairs underway on Kaiwiki Road in Hilo

Emergency repairs are underway on Kaiwiki Road because of an increased road depression.

Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works reports the project began Aug. 15. There is no specific estimated completion date; work will continue until the roadway is repaired.

Motorists should be aware:

  • One-lane closure in place throughout the work period.
  • Message boards are posted on the roadway to provide updates.
  • A police officer will assist with traffic control this weekend.
  • Yield signs and a speed hump were installed as part of the repairs.

Officials advise the public to drive with caution in the work zone; follow all posted signs and directions from traffic personnel.
