Lane closures scheduled in Kona as Hawaiian Electric replaces utility poles

Hawaiian Electric crews have begun replacing several utility poles in South Kona.

Work began on Aug. 8 and will continue through the week. As a result, officials with the power company state that there will be lane closures.

Starting today, a portion of Māmalahoa Highway, south of Poli Uli Road, will be closed overnight between mile markers 5 and 6 in Hōlualoa, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Aug. 12.

On Aug. 13, there will be intermittent closures of the makai (oceanside) lane of Māmalahoa Highway between mile markers 1 and 2 in Hōlualoa, just south of Nohealani Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to drive with caution when approaching the work zones. Flagmen will be onsite to provide traffic control.
