No injuries reported after unexploded grenade found on Ali‘i Drive

Hawai‘i Island police safely removed a device resembling an unexploded grenade found in downtown Kona.

The grenade was reported in the area of the 75-5700 block of Ali‘i Drive on Wednesday. According to Hawai‘i Island police, responding officers established a perimeter and restricted access to the area to protect public safety.

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Special Response Team was notified, and a Bomb Technician was dispatched to the scene. After a thorough assessment, the technician determined that the grenade didn’t have an explosive charge or fuse.

The device was then safely removed from the area for subsequent disposal.

Police advise the public not to touch or attempt to move a suspected grenade or explosive device. Call 911 and report as much details about the device’s appearance and location.
