The Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply will temporarily turn off the water in Keaukaha and along Airport Road in Hilo beginning Friday night to Saturday morning.

The Department of Water Supply will turn off the water at 10 p.m. on Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday morning to replace a valve within the National Guard Complex. Affected customers will have no water or low water pressure during this time.

Affected areas include:

  • Businesses and residences in Keaukaha
    • Between Kalanianaʻole Street to Kapili Avenue
    • Between Kaʻuhane Avenue to ʻUwaʻu Street
  • Hilo International Airport
  • Hilo Post Office
  • Air Cargo Operations
  • Hawaiʻi National Guard Complex
  • Hilo Wastewater Treatment Plant

Upon the resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time affected customers may notice turbid and/or discolored water.  They also may notice trapped air in their plumbing, which will be released as you initially use water.

Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect their property and facilities. For example, customers may need to disable electrical power to pumps and any other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure or water supply.

Affected customers also should set aside drinking water ahead of time to meet their household’s temporary water needs.

If customers within the affected areas have any questions, contact District Supervisor Earl Yoshioka at (808) 961-8790.
