Puna man faces nearly 20 charges after small arsenal discovered in Hawaiian Beaches residence
A 31-year-old Puna man faces nearly 20 charges after Hawai‘i Island police found a small arsenal last week at a Puna residence.

Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney says Solomon Lord was arrested and charged April 16 following the execution of a search warrant on a Lalakea Street home in Hawaiian Beaches.
Lord was charged with the following 18 offenses:
- 10 counts of ownership or possession of firearm or ammunition prohibited.
- 2 counts of ownership prohibited (high capacity detachable magazine).
- 3 counts of manufacturing, purchasing or obtaining firearm parts to assemble a firearm having no serial number.
- Ownership prohibited (assault pistol).
- Misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member.
- Second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
He made his initial appearance the afternoon of April 21 in Hilo District Court, during which Lord requested supervised release, to which prosecutors objected.
District Judge Jeffrey Hawk found there was probable cause — based on all counts — to keep him behind bars and maintained Lord’s bail at $484,000. The 31-year-old Puna man was ordered to return April 23 for a preliminary hearing.
Ownership or possession of firearm or ammunition prohibited is the most serious offense Lord faces. It is a Class B felony, carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
If convicted as charged, Prosecutors notified the court that if Lord is convicted as charged, he is subject to a mandatory prison term and will not be eligible for probation.
The prosecutor’s office reports among the items Hawai‘i Police Department officers found during their search were:
- An unserialized FM Products 9mm assault pistol with a 9-inch barrel.
- An unserialized 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a loaded high-capacity magazine.
- An unserialized 5.56-caliber rifle.
- A loaded Marlin brand lever-action 30-30 caliber rifle.
- A loaded Savage model 10 .308-caliber bolt-action rifle.
This is not Lord’s first time through the court system. The convicted felon has been the subject of other criminal cases in the past, including being convicted in a criminal property damage, burglary and terroristic threatening case from 2022.
Court records show he has a rap sheet that goes back to October 2012 and includes traffic infractions, claims court issues, domestic incidents, Family Court cases as well as other criminal complaints.
The Hawaiian Beaches firearms case was initiated by Puna Patrol of and the felony investigation was led by Detective Jason Grouns with the Area I Juvenile Aid Section.
Deputy Hawai‘i County Prosecuting Attorneys Kevin Soong and Woodrow Pengelly are prosecuting the case.
