Man with eye injury medivaced from fishing vessel off O‘ahu shores
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced an ailing man from a fishing vessel 40 miles offshore O‘ahu.
Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received notification at 4:30 p.m. Saturday from crew members aboard the fishing vessel Capt Davis that a 34-year-old crewman had suffered an eye injury approximately 350 miles southwest of O‘ahu, according to a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard this morning.
Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.
At 6 a.m., an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the crew of the Capt Davis about 40 miles southwest of Kapolei.
The helicopter crew hoisted the man from the vessel and transported the patient to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
