The day is finally here, when ghouls and goblins roam free and ghosts and other things that go bump in the night make themselves known.

Happy Halloween, Big Island!

It’s a full day and night of frightul festivities for the haunting holiday no matter where you are on the island, with plenty of trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treating for keiki and monster bashes for adults, too.

The Great Escape with the Hawai‘i Keiki Museum
Kings’ Shops, Waikōloa
Challenge your wits with spooky quizzes and puzzles created by the Hawai’i Keiki Museum. Adventurers can sign up at the museum and embark on a quest throughout the shops, competing for prizes and a $150 giveaway. It’s a boo-nanza of brain-teasing fun for all ages. Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Kings’ Shops, Waikōloa
Enjoy a gourd-geous display of creativity as retailers showcase their decorated pumpkins. Vote for your favorites, and three lucky voters will win $150, $75 and $50 gift cards. Halloween Week at Big Island Meadery — Costume Party
10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Big Island Meadery, WH Shipman Business Park, Kea‘au
It’s Halloween Day, so come in costume, of course. There will be a bloody fondue fountain, keiki giveaways and other spooky treats, plus the meadery continues to celebrate its first year business anniversary with all the shenanigans.

‘Ohana Pumpkin Patch
11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nani Mau Gardens, Hilo
Bring the entire ‘ohana for a magical day of autumn fun and the perfect family friendly Halloween adventure. There’s pumpkins galore, fun Halloween inflatables, free keiki and adult games and plenty of tasty treats and island favorites to enjoy all day long. For more info: www.nanimaugardens.com.

Trick or Treating & Golden Tickets
2 to 8 p.m., Kings’ Shops, Waikōloa
Families can embark on a Trick or Treat adventure with 15 candy stops across Kings’ Shops. Each stop has hidden golden tickets that can be redeemed for prizes at Sugar Coast Candy. One lucky participant will win a $100 gift card. Guests can sign up for this fa-boo-lous activity at Center Stage, where the adventure begins. Candy Crawl
4 to 6 p.m., Keauhou Shopping Center, Kailua-Kona

HalloQueen Trick-or-Treating
4 to 7 p.m., Queens’ Marketplace, Waikōloa
This fang-tastic free, family friendly event will be bursting with goodies and ghoulish fun. Stroll through the marketplace, stop by participating booths and merchants for sweet treats and dive into spooky activities including face painting, graveyard games and balloon artistry. Don’t you dare miss the jaw-dropping magic show by the one and only Alexander D’mazing at 5 p.m. in the Coronation Pavilion. It’s bound to be spellbinding.

Halloween Keiki Trick-or-Treating
5 to 7 p.m., Hawaiian Paradise Park
Costumed keiki are invited to Paradise Drive and 31st Avenue to collect tasty treats — or maybe get a few tricks. You just have to ask the question.

Trunk-or-Treat
5 to 7 p.m., Orchidland
Bring the keiki in their costumes and get some treats on 36th Avenue and Orchidland Drive.

Trick-or-Treat Mall Crawl
5 to 7 p.m., Prince Kūhiō Plaza, Hilo
Bring the kids in their costumes for this annual fun, safe, family oriented and weather friendly Halloween experience. Stop by Enjoy Comics to get a free comic, too!

Trunk n Treat 2024 hosted by Cherie and Whitney
5:30 to 7 p.m., Swap Meet by Mālama Market, Ocean View
It will be a whole lot of Halloween fun that will include collecting treats, a “Witches Dance” and a Best Trunk contest. Trunk decorating is from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Gate will be locked for the duration of the event for safety of the kids. Anyone who wants to donate can drop items off at the gas station by Mālama Market; your participation and kindness are appreciated and needed.

Haunt-O-Ween
5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Mountain View Elementary School, Mountain View
Join the fun with trick-or-treating, a haunted house and a Monster Mash.

Trunk-Or-Treat
5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Christ Lutheran Church, Hilo
Come all families, rain or shine, for some safe Halloween fun.

Gam3Escape’s annual Halloween Event
5 to 8 p.m., Gam3Escape, Hilo
Bring the kiddos down to grab some free candy and Pokémon BOO-ster packs during this annual event in conjunction with @tcg808marketplace. There will also be a free Pokémon pull game as well as free drawings for prizes, and @tcg808marketplace and @shaylax.ink will be there with a free coloring contest and free costume contest, plus other giveaways. There won’t be any critical fails here. Just a frightfully fun time.

Trick-or-Treating
5 to 8 p.m., Lua Lai Community, Waimea
Witches, werewolves and vampires welcome. Ghouls, goblins and ghosts are fine, too. Really, any costume will do. It will be a fang-tastic Halloween that will have everyone howling with delight.

Halloween Block Party Trunk-or-Treat
5:30 to 7 p.m., Kaʻū District Gym parking lot, Pāhala
The entire family is invited to this event that will feature goodie bags, books, safety supplies, food and kits full of science, technology, engineering and math materials. Plus, it’s Halloween, so there will be plenty of candy to be collected from the participating trunks and tents, which will also have the chance to win a decoration contest themselves. Don’t miss all the fun.

Halloween Party
6 to 8 p.m., Laulima Nature Center, Hilo
Get your costumes ready. This fun-filled gathering will celebrate All Hallow’s Eve as well as native species of Hawai‘i and conservation efforts. If you join the costume contest starting at 7 p.m. you have a chance to win a $50 gift card, and every participant gets a prize. Come join the fun.

Trick-or-Treating & Movie on the Grass
6 to 8 p.m., Puna Kai Shopping Center, Pāhoa
Come in costume and go shop-to-shop to get your tricks or treats. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” will be playing on the grass area for those little ghosts and goblins to enjoy.

Kurtistown Kid’s Party
6 to 8 p.m., Kurtistown Assembly of God, Kurtistown
Bring the entire ‘ohana out for this special celebration that promises to be full of fun, food, games and, of course, candy.

KTA Pūʻainakō’s 12th annual Haunted House
5 to 9 p.m., KTA Super Stores Pūʻainakō, Hilo
Embark on a Halloween adventure with your entire ‘ohana for some spooktacular “Great Explorations”! Cost: Free; donations of non-perishable food items accepted for The Food Basket.

Haunted Cavern
6 to 10 p.m., Penn UFC Gym, Hilo
The Penn Hawai’i Youth Foundation, Exposed Roots and Lōihi Studios return for another Halloween event. Brave the depths of this dreadful den, where creatures from the underworld and darkness lurk in the abyss, if you dare. Come prepared to be scared. Enjoy carnival games, food vendors, a beer garden and live music, too.

The Kalili’s Haunted Maze
6 to 11 p.m., 35 Andrews Ave., Keaukaha
Inspired by Papa Roymonty Kalili Sr., the Kalili family invites the community to join it for a spooktacular Halloween celebration while getting lost in a maze that is sure to not just get you turned around a time or two in the direction your going but also in what you might be seeing at the corner of your eye or lurking in the shadows.

Big Island Boys Volleyball Club Haunted House
7 to 10 p.m., 1750 Auwae Road, Hilo
Come if you dare. Be prepared for a scare. Cost: $5.

The Haunted Trail: Chapter 24 — Hide N Seek
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., Nani Mau Gardens, Hilo
Tropical beauty is possessed by the dead on this terrifying trail, where a sinister doll beckons you into a twisted game of hide and seek. Do you dare to play with evil? Venture misty pathways where the restless undead roam. The chilling cries of victims echo as grotesque beasts prepare a ghastly feast. Shadows lurk with evil spirits, eager to claim another soul. Keep moving and avoid getting trapped forever … because the doll is never far behind. Will you survive the night, or become another lost soul on the trail? Daylight hours are less intense so the entire family can enjoy the trail. Nighttime is the full-scare experience and recommended only for those 18 and older, unless accompanied by a parent. There will be bright flashing lights. No running allowed. No guests with known heart conditions. All guests must sign a personal liability waiver. The Phantom Farm Haunted House
5 to 7 p.m. and spooky hour 6 to 7 p.m., East Hawai‘i Cultural Center, Hilo
The East Hawai‘i Cultural Center Youth Arts Series is back with its 5th annual haunted house sculpture installation and fundraiser. Take a tractor out to a desolate landscape, where the veggies bite back. Spooky hour might not be appropriate for younger keiki. Cost: By donation.

Wine & Chocolate: A Deadly Combination

This will be an unforgettable Hallo-Wine pairing event. Enjoy four handcrafted wines from Volcano Winery perfectly paired with Puna Chocolate’s single origin chocolates from districts around the Big Island while a Volcano Winery representative expertly guides you through the delicious experience. Spooktacular Halloween Food and Dance Party
6 to 9 p.m., Kona Elks Lodge, Kailua-Kona
Kona Elks invites community members to join them, if they dare, for a night of frightful fun under the moon. Bring a guest and boogie down with Johnny Shot Band. Expect spine-tingling activities, too, including “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” taking audiences on the “Time Warp” again in the theater. Whether you come as a ghost, goblin or something ghastly in between, it’s sure to be a wicked good time. RSVP to attend. Cost: $15; members receive a $5 discount. Metallaule‘a
6 to 11 p.m., Hilo Town Market, Hilo
Come out for a bloody magical, thrashing ghoulishly delightful night with The Thrash-o-Matix, Rattlebonez and Mataleo. All ages welcome. It will be a most metal Halloween. Cost: $10 cover.

Halloween Bash
6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Hilo Town Tavern, Hilo
Spend Halloween with Hilo Town Tavern and Saddle Road Band. Don your costume, do some dancing, have some food, get your drink on to get into the spirit of the haunting holiday. Good times are sure to be had by all. Must be 21 years old or older to attend.

Blue Dragon Halloween Party with Green Machine
6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Blue Dragon Tavern, Kawaihae
Green Machine is the ultimate good time party band based out of Kona, blending classic rock, funk, soul, pop and country music covering artists such as Zeppelin, the Stones, War and more. This will be a spooktacular event that will include a costume contest with a $200 grand prize and lots of swag prizes for the runners-up. The Macabre Masquerade Halloween Costume Dance

Halloween Party at Eunice with Average Joes
8 p.m., Eunice Lounge & Bar aka Neecey’s, Hilo
Join four-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award finalists Average Joes for a scary good time and plenty of spirited fun during this All Hallow’s Eve bash. The bar will be serving up drink specials and there will be a costume contest with $500 in cash and prizes up for grabs. Must be 21 years old or older with a valid ID to attend. Cost: $5 cover.

Halloween Bash
9 p.m. to 2 a.m., MyBar, Kailua-Kona
Calling all the da best costumes for Kona’s largest costume and Halloween dance party! Dress up and come out for your chance at winning a share of $1,000 in prizes — $500 first place, $350 second place and $250 third place. Hosted by the scariest Gilly Tina. Cost: $10 before 10 p.m.; $20 after.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show”
7 p.m., Palace Theater, Hilo
Come be part of the annual presentation of this cult classic and watch again as Brad and Janet’s innocence is lost as they discover the eerie mansion of transvestite scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his out-of-this-world view of the universe. Festivities kick off at 7 p.m. with classic Halloween cartoons on the silver screen. Sign up for the costume contest hosted by Lady Lily La Douce to compete for cool prizes. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place, along with Riff Raff’s Choice award. Participation kits are redeemable in the lobby the night of the event. Pre-order you kit with your online ticket and check in the night of the show. Participation kits will also be available for purchase that night. Cost: $12 general admission; $15 at the door without a costume. Participation kits $5.
