High surf advisory in effect for north-facing shores of North and East Hawai‘i

Some Big Island shores will continue to see large breaking waves of 12 to 16 feet through Wednesday morning as a moderate to large, medium period north swell slowly declines through the end of the work week.

Because of the surf conditions, the National Weather Service forecast office in Honololu extended a high surf advisory through 6 a.m. Wednesday for north-facing shores in North and East Hawai‘i.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents along the impacted coastlines will make swimming dangerous in those areas.

The public should heed all advice from ocean safety officials — when in doubt, don’t go out.
