Firefighters extinguished a blaze at a laundromat in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island early Saturday morning.

Flames and heavy smoke were visible through the roof and inside J&K Wash and Go Laundromat on Luhia Street when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to a preliminary report issued by the Hawai‘i Fire Department.

No occupants were present within the approximately 15,000 square-foot building. Firefighters entered the laundromat through the rear to put out the fire.

The Hawai‘i Fire Department did not list the fire’s cause in its preliminary report. The depart estimated a loss of $750,000 as a result of the incident.
