4:42 p.m. May 16 update: Radar shows that heavy rains have diminished in the Ka‘ū, Hilo and Puna districts as well as the interior of the Big Island. As a result, the flood advisory previously in effect until 6:45 p.m. was canceled.
3:39 p.m. May 16 update: The flood advisory for Ka‘ū, Hilo and Puna Districts as well as the Hawai‘i Island Interior has been extended to 6:45 p.m.
At 3:23 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain continuing over the upper North Hilo and South Hilo Districts. Rain has been falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour over a portion of the Saddle Road between Kaumana and the Mauna Kea Access Road.
Heavy rainfall should end by sunset. Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Pōhakuloa Camp, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View and Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
