Kona man sentenced to 20 years in prison for crime spree a year ago

A Kona man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a myriad of offenses that occurred during a crime spree in April 2023.

Dylan Alcain, 28, was sentenced on May 3. On April 20, 2023, Alcain, along with his wife Leilani, broke into two Hele-On gas stations — one in Kona and the other in Captain Cook; committed an armed robbery in the Kona Paradise Subdivision in South Kona; and fired at police officers who were attempting to pull them over.

Alcain pleaded guilty to the following:

  • First-degree robbery
  • Two counts of second-degree burglary
  • Two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening
  • First-degree criminal property damage
  • First-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle

Leilani Alcain is also facing charges and is being held on $700,000 bail. Her trial is scheduled for Aug. 6, 2024.
