A Kona man facing a slew of charges following an early-morning crime spree in South Kona with his wife last year changed his plea to guilty.

Dylan Alain, 28, appeared in 3rd Circuit Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the following offenses:

  • First-degree robbery
  • Two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening
  • First-degree resisting order to stop
  • First-degree criminal property damage
  • Two counts of second-degree burglary

On April 20, 2023, Dylan and Leilani Alcain were arrested after Hawai‘i Island police say they broke into two Hele-On gas stations — one in Kona and the other in Captain Cook; committed an armed robbery in the Kona Paradise Subdivision in South Kona; and fired at police officers who were attempting to pull them over. The pair were charged as principal and/or accomplice in all offenses.

At the time of their arrests, the couple was charged with the same offenses. Dylan Alcain had one additional first-degree burglary charge stemming from a break-in at a Texaco on Waikōloa Road on April 14.

During the court hearing Thursday, Circuit Court Judge Wendy DeWeese explained each charge carefully to Alcain and the punishments they carry. The first-degree robbery charge carries the most severe penalty with a maximum 20-year prison sentence and no eligibility for probation.

Alcain is scheduled to appear for sentencing on April 17.

Leilani Alcain is scheduled to appear for a jury trial on Feb. 13.
