Mediation center’s free ‘Finding Solutions, Growing Peace’ talk series returns Thursday

The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center will host a free talk on March 21 as part of its “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series.

Talks are held on the third Thursday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

This month’s speaker is Dr. Colby Miyose on the topic “Understanding & Empathizing with Differing Conflict Styles.” 

“Conflict is an inevitable part of our personal and professional lives,” said Miyose.  “Although conflict can have various negative effects, it can also contribute to better understanding, increased innovation, improved decision-making, and relational and personal growth.”

In this talk, participants will explore factors that influence conflict styles and tactics in order to better empathize with others and manage conflicts within their relationships.

Miyose (Ph.D., University of Massachusetts, Amherst) is an assistant professor at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo in the Department of Communication and the second vice chair for the Asian Pacific American Caucus and Communication Studies Division for the National Communication Association. He has two areas of expertise, the first being media studies and identity and ideology formation and the second being relational communication.

Ku‘ikahi’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session and connect with others interested in “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace.”
