Water service will be temporarily shut off from 8 a.m. to noon March 5 on Pōhakulani Street in Hilo, between West Kawailani Street and West Puainako Street, so Hawai’i County crews can install new valves.

Affected customers should take precautions to protect their property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices which normal operation could be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply and that might be harmed if automatically energized while water service is shut off.

Upon resumption of service, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned during which time customers in the affected area could notice turbid and/or discolored water. They also could notice trapped air in their plumbing, which will be released as they initially use water.

Any questions can be directed to District Supervisor Carl Nishimura at 808-961-8790.
