Water conservation notice for North Kohala customers continues
It’s been nearly a month since two Hawai‘i County water wells in North Kohala went down and customers were asked to reduce water use by 10%.
On Friday, the Department of Water Supply County of Hawai‘i announced the conservation notice — for residential and commercial accounts — remains in effect till further notice. The reduced use will help the department maintain an adequate water supply and pressure for customers’ use while it continues repairs for two of the three wells.
Affected areas include:
- Hāwī to Hala‘ula
- Puakea Bay
- Ka‘auhuhu Homesteads
- ‘Āinakea Village Subdivision
- All customers along Akoni Pule Highway, Mill and Ma‘ulili Roads
The county anticipates bringing one of the inoperable wells back online by early February based on the current schedule for delivery of necessary parts.
Status updates will be issued as necessary and made available at www.hawaiidws.org.
Performing the following steps will help to conserve water:
- Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes
- Check faucets and pipes for leaks
- Do not let water run when washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth
- Reduce showering times
All affected water customers should limit water use for dust control and irrigation.
