Update: High surf advisory for north-facing shores canceled
3:58 p.m. Dec. 15 update: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled the high surf advisory for north-facing shores of the Big Island.
The weather agency says surf has fallen below advisory levels; however, surf along north shorelines is expected to hold at just below advisory levels with little fall this weekend.
A small boost in surf is expected from late Sunday into Monday, likely requiring another high surf advisory for north-facing shores of most of the islands, along with various east-facing coasts.
Original post: A moderate size, medium period north (350 degree) swell arriving late tonight and peaking Friday morning will produce advisory level surf along many northern exposures.
Surf 15 to 20 feet will effect north-facing shores of Ni‘ihau, Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Molokai, Maui, Lanai and Big Island until 6 p.m. Friday.
Impacts will be moderate. Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
