The Kanu o ka ʻĀina New Century Public Charter School in Waimea has received a grant award totaling $290,386 that will support the Native Hawaiian community through the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Hawaiian-Focused Public Charter School Grants.

The grant promotes the Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ work in supporting education by
adequately resourcing Hawaiian Focused Charter Schools and Hawaiian medium schools.

Kanu o ka ʻĀina New Century Public Charter School will administer funds to engage
students and families in improving educational outcomes.

“The funds allow our haumāna and kumu to regularly connect with community organizations focusing on ʻāina-based learning and place-based solutions,” said Kanoa Castro, Kauhale Upper (6-12) Poʻokumu.
