Police seeking twin runaways Maiya and Shaiya Mattos-Eblacas

Hawaiʻi Island police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating 16-year-old twin sisters  Maiya and Shaiya Mattos-Eblacas who were reported as runaways.

The sisters were last seen leaving their school campus in the 100 block of Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo on Oct. 6 at 1:50 p.m.

Maiya is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, 115 pounds, with long, straight brown hair and hazel eyes. She also has a scar on her lower right cheek. Maiya was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and sweatpants, black slip-on sandals, and had a small, blue Reebok bag in her possession.

Shaiya is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 115 pounds, with long, straight brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue sweatpants, black slip-on sandals, and had a black backpack in her possession.

Police ask anyone who may have information about Maiya and Shaiya’s whereabouts to call the police department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311 or contact Acting Detective Corey Kaneko of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section at 808-961-8843.
