UPDATE: Police locate escapee Ainakailani Akui

Update at 8: 35 p.m.: The Hawai‘i Police Department has located Hale Nani Correctional Facility escapee Ainakailani Akui.

He was apprehended at 5:55 p.m on Thursday.

Akui was in custody for a burglary offense and unlawful possession of confidential information.

Original story posted at 12:18 p.m.: The Hawai‘i Police Department is currently searching for escapee Ainakailani Akui.

He is a 28-year-old local male, 5-foot-8 and weighs 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is wearing gray sweatpants and sweatshirt.

He was last seen at the Hale Nani Correctional Facility on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo on Nov. 2 at 10:35 a.m.

He is known to frequent the Hilo and Puna districts.

Akui was in custody for a burglary offense and unlawful possession of confidential information.

If anyone sees Akui or has information about his whereabouts, do not approach him, call 911 or contact police dispatch at 808-935-3311.
