Big Island firefighters battle Pāhoa structure fire

Big Island firefighters battled a structure fire late Friday night and into early Saturday morning in Puna.

The Hawai‘i Fire Department says fire personnel responded at 11:49 p.m. Friday to the blaze at 15-0280 Kahakai Boulevard in Pāhoa. The first of seven units to respond was on scene by 11:59 p.m.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found a one-story structure 50% involved in fire. No one was at the building and the owner is unknown. A total of 12 responding firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 12:15 a.m. Saturday and the blaze was extinguished by 12:30 a.m.

All fire units were back in quarters by 1:21 a.m. Saturday.

Hawai‘i Police Department personnel also responded to the scene.

There were no injuries and no damage estimates were provided.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.
