New world record set in World’s Toughest Row from California to Kaua‘i

The World’s Toughest Row, an extreme test of endurance, courage, and perseverance, sees participants from across the world row across the Pacific Ocean.

Starting in Monterey, California, 14 teams set off on the adventure of a lifetime as they began their journey to the shores of Hanalei on the North Shore of Kauaʻi.

Today, after 2,800 miles of the treacherous Pacific Ocean, team Kiwi Fondue from the UK and Switzerland crossed the finish line in a record-breaking time of 29 days, 17 hours and 29 minutes.

This four-man team, consisting of Alex Brooker, Richard Henderson, Lorenz Gammeter and Alex Gammeter, has not only emerged victorious as the winners in the inaugural World’s Toughest Row – Pacific but also set a new world record for the fastest team to ever row across the Pacific Ocean, smashing the previous record by 14 hours and 01 minutes. Their achievement epitomizes human resilience and the indomitable spirit of adventure.

When asked about their experience, Richard said it was “Epic to torturous to beautiful and everything in between.”

The team’s journey was a testament to brotherhood. Born out of two bonds, one by blood, the Gammeters, and the other by friendship. Despite battling challenging weather conditions, confronting rogue waves, and keeping a close watch on their competitors, Kiwi Fondue held an unflinching resolve and led the race from their departure from Monterey, California.

Following the success of the World’s Toughest Row – Atlantic, a premier event in ocean rowing for over a decade, the organizers had broadened their horizons, setting their sights on the vast expanses of the Pacific Ocean. Here, in the World’s Toughest Row – Pacific, teams have been pushed beyond their conceivable limits. They have been challenged with formidable 20-foot waves, severe sleep deprivation, and extreme physical and mental trials that stretch the bounds of human resilience.
