At a July 6 special meeting, the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents elected Alapaki Nahale-a as chair and Gabriel Lee and Ernest Wilson as vice chairs for one-year terms that run from July 2023 to June 2024.

“I am very honored the regents have faith in me to play that important role,” Nahale-a said in a press release. “I am excited about our collection of regents and their array of experience, a lot of public service, and they clearly care about the University of Hawaiʻi. Itʻs going to be a great group to be a part of.”

The board has 11 volunteer regents. They are nominated by the Regents Candidate Advisory Council, appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state legislature.
