Update: Power restored to Hawaiian Electric customers North Kohala and Ka‘ū

Updated at 3:22 p.m. on Feb. 9: Power has been restored to Hawaiian Electric customers in North Kohala.

Updated at 3:01 p.m. on Feb. 9: Power was restored in Ka‘ū where 1,749 Hawaiian Electric customers were without power. Crews are still working to restore power in the Kohala Districts.

More than 1,700 Hawaiian Electric customers in Ka‘ū are without power as of 11:40 a.m.

The outage is impacting customers from Kapāpala Ranch to just past South Point Road area. Additionally, more than 2,100 customers are without power from Waimea Kohala Mountain Road to all of North Kohala area.

Outages may be a result of the high winds that are sweeping across the county. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for North and South Kohala. Wind advisories were issued for the remaining areas of the island, including the summits.
