Nothing like kicking off your season with facing off against a defending conference champ.

That’s exactly what the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo baseball team faces as it begins a challenging 2023 slate with back-to-back series Feb. 1 against Augustana out of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, which finished 47-13-1 overall a year ago with an appearance in the NCAA Super Regional round.

That’s just the opening salvo for the Vulcans’ 25 home-game schedule.

UH-Hilo then follows that five-game series with a four-game slate against Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season co-champion Northwest Nazarene, which ended last season with an overall record of 31-23.

Pacific West Conference play starts Feb. 24 against Concordia University Irvine. The Vulcans will continue on to host through March 18, going up against the likes of Biola, Point Loma Nazarene and Azusa Pacific, to complete its season-opening home stand.

UH-Hilo will return to Hilo in late April for its final home series against Hawai‘i Pacific University before closing the regular season against the Sharks on O‘ahu.

This is the 10th year with Vulcans head coach Kallen Miyataki at the helm.
