University of Hawai‘i at Hilo men’s basketball standout Darren Williams put up numbers that grabbed attention last week in the Vulcans home 97-79 victory against Hawai’i Pacific University. That attention was enough for him to be named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 5-11.

Williams, a 5-foot, 8-inch senior guard from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., played in just the one game last week and was almost perfect. He had a season-high 28 points, missing just two shots in 39 minutes. Williams was 11-of-13, including 6-of-7 from three-point range. He also had five assists and three steals to help lead the Vulcans to a 3-0 mark in PacWest play and a 5-1 overall record for the season.

The third-year UH-Hilo standout leads the PacWest in assists (5.7) and three-point percentage (0.553) and is second in steals (2.5) and fourth in scoring (19.2).
