Historic Kailua Village celebrating holiday season with tree lighting, concert, parades
The Historic Kailua Village will ring in the holiday season with special events and activities that include a tree lighting, Christmas parades by land and sea, and a free concert with Grammy Award wining Kalani Pe’a.
Kailua Kalikimaka Tree Lighting: Kailua Village Business Improvement District begins the festivities on Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving, with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Emma’s Square (located across from Hulihee Palace).
This tree lighting tradition and program begins at 5:15 p.m. The event includes special musical performances with Kapulanakēhau Tamure and keiki hula performances from Hālau E Hulali Mai I Ka La.
Plan for a festive selfie spot with Miss Kona Coffee and Miss Aloha Hawai’i as the the tree is lit to signal the start of the holiday season.
Kailua-Kona Christmas Parade: On Dec. 10, bring the entire family to Historic Kailua Village for the 36th annual Kailua-Kona Christmas parade. Nā Mele O Kalikimaka, The Songs of Christmas Island Style themed parade starts at 5 p.m, with announcing stations throughout the village. The Kailua-Kona Christmas parade is presented by Rotary Clubs of West Hawaiʻi and the Kailua-Kona Community Parade Association.
Kōkua Kailua: Looking for locally made crafts for that special gift? Stroll Historic Kailua Village and shop small on Dec. 11 from 1 to 6 p.m. on Aliʻi Drive, which will become a pedestrian-only mall. Support village merchants, artists and musicians.
Kailua Kalikimaka Holiday Concert: The Kailua Village Business Improvement District is presenting a free holiday concert on Dec. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. featuring the Grammy Award-winning Kalani Pe’a on center stage.
7th Annual Lighted Boat Parade: The holiday fun continues with the Lighted Boat Parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11. Kona’s fleet will put on a jovial show in Kailua Bay. Body Glove will be docked at Kailua Pier for great viewing with food and beverages available for purchase.
