Standout performances by two University of Hawai‘i at Hilo seniors earned them honors as KTA Super Stores Superstars of the Week for Sept. 14-20.

The Big Island grocer honored Marcus Plataniotis of the men’s soccer team and Emma Heidelmeier from the women’s cross country squad.

Plataniotis made his first appearance on the soccer field earlier this month. The redshirt senior had logged zero playing time since transferring to UH-Hilo following the 2018 and 2019 soccer seasons at St. Mary’s University. The Australia resident got the start Sept. 17 against Hawai‘i Pacific and headed in the Vulcans lone goal in the 82nd minute of the matchup.

Heidelmeier set a new 5K personal best time at the Chaminade Invitational on Sept. 17 at Patsy T. Mink Central O‘ahu Regional Park. The senior’s time of 21:26.4 beat her previous record by nearly 20 seconds, which she set in 2019 at the Biola Invitational. The Pagosa Springs, Colo, resident also led the Vulcans with a seventh-place finish for a top 10 placement.

KTA Super Stores selects one male and one female UH-Hilo student-athlete as its Superstars of the week every Wednesday, recognizing standout accomplishments and highlights of each player from the previous week. To see more KTA Superstars, click here.
