Gov. David Ige on Tuesday, July 12, announced he is releasing $4.5 million for a demolition project at Hilo Harbor.
The capital improvement funds will be used to fund additional construction costs associated with work surrounding the demolition of the harbor’s water tower and other existing structures.
“I’d like to thank Gov. Ige for releasing funding to finance additional construction funds for the demolition of the Hilo Harbor Pier 2 shed, water tank and water tower,” Sen. Lorraine Inouye, who represents state Senate District 1 (Hilo, Hāmākua, Kohala, Waimea, Waikōloa, Kona), said in a press release.

Inouye added that demolishing those antiquated structures will allow for much needed new and better equipped infrastructure to be developed at Hilo Harbor.
