UPDATE: Daniel K. Inouye Highway is now open. Hawai‘i Police Department thanks the public for their patience.
The Hawai‘i Police Department advises motorists to avoid the area of the 6-mile marker of Daniel K. Inouye Highway because of a traffic incident.
According to a community message from the department, a vehicle crash near the 6-mile marker in Hilo has caused the closure of the highway and will require a detour of traffic for the next four hours.
Motorists are being detoured through the old Saddle Road above Kaumana Drive.
