Portion of Highway 19 in Hāmākua Previously Closed Because of Vehicle Collision Open Again

Update: Big Island police announced in a community message shortly after 11 a.m. that both lanes are again open on Highway 19 at the 38-mile marker near Kalopa in Hāmākua. The roadway was previously closed while police investigated the traffic incident that caused the closure.
According to messages from the Hawai‘i Police Department and Hawai’i County Civil Defense, Highway 19 in Hāmākua is closed in both directions near the 38-mile marker because of a vehicle collision.
Civil Defense said motorists in the area should expect delays until vehicles have been removed from the roadway.
No further information about the collision was available.
