The holidays were made even brighter for some Big Island keiki and their families this weekend during Christmas in Ka’u.

This year’s event was titled “Touched by an Angel.” The community food and gift distribution event was Saturday.

The drive-through event was organized by community leaders, including the Hana Laulima Lahui O Ka’u, to provide food and children’s gifts to area residents.

Catholic Charities Hawai’i provided 20 pound bags of rice to each recipient. Area restaurants cooked and distributed free meals, while the Hawai’i Police Department and other community groups provided toys and school supplies to the keiki.
