Hilo Student Takes First Place in Statewide Poster Contest
Saige DeloSantos, a fourth-grader at Keaukaha Elementary School in Hilo, has taken first place in the statewide 2017 Mayor’s Memorial Day Poster Contest.
To recognize the outstanding work of the winning artists in the 2017 Mayor’s Memorial Day Poster Contest, a congratulatory ceremony will be held by Deputy Managing Director Georgette Deemer and Department of Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Jeanne Ishikawa on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room located within the Managing Director’s office on the 3rd floor of Honolulu Hale.
First-, second- and third-place finishers in each of the three categories will be recognized and rewarded for their skillful depictions requesting lei for the Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
For the first time in several years, two winners hail from the neighbor islands—DeloSantos and Talan Akina-Chong, a fourth-grader at Lihikai Elementary School in Kahului, who place third in the contest.
Hawaiian Airlines will donate the flights that will allow both of the winning students from the Neighbor Islands, and their chaperones, to be present during the ceremony.
