Jeanne w Kona1The 23rd annual UCC Coffee Kona Marathon Events are scheduled for Sunday, June 26.

All four events —the Marathon, Half-Marathon, new Quarter Marathon (10.55K) and 5K—start and finish at the Queens’ Marketplace Waikoloa Bowl at at Queen’s Garden at the Waikoloa Beach Resort.

The courses are shaded along Waikoloa Beach Drive. Marathon, Half-Marathon and QuarterMarathon runners will continue onto the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway and the lava fields of Kona, running a portion of the famous Ironman World Championship bike route before returning to the Waikoloa Beach Resort to the finish line.

All events are open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

An estimated 2,000 runners of all ages and abilities will be participating for prizes, health and enjoyment and fundraising for local and national charities.

Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway will be open in both directions throughout this event. Motorists should use caution; during the marathon, there will be walkers and runners on the highway maikai shoulder between mile markers 80 and 73 from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
