Suspect Arrested in Waiakea High School Threat

Threatening notes left at Waiakea High School on Thursday have led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy.

Media reports indicate that the suspect wrote a note in a men’s bathroom that read: “gun in my bag and on 5-20-16 I will go to the center of the quad and shoot everyone.”

Waiakea High School principal Kelcy Koga wrote a letter in response to the incident, which was posted on the school’s website and dated May 19.

“Waiakea administration was made aware of an alleged threat to the school today [Thursday]. The Hawai’i Police Department was notified immediately and is currently investigating. There will be no changes to the school schedule,” the letter sad=ud,

Police say the notes were left on bathroom walls between 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The suspect was arrested at Waiakea High School at 9 a.m. on Friday. His identity will not be released by authorities since he is a minor.

HPD reports that the boy is being held at the South Hilo police station as Area I Juvenile Aid Section detectives investigate the incident.
