Three UH Infrared Telescope Vehicles Stolen in Hilo

Three United States government vehicles were stolen in Hilo early Tuesday morning.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that the vehicles were a gray 2011 Ford pickup truck, a white 2014 Ford flatbed truck, and a black 2013 Ford Explorer.

University of Hawai’i spokesperson Dan Meisenzahl told Big Island Now Tuesday morning that the vehicles belonged to the UH Infrared Telescope Facility and were removed at about 1 a.m. Tuesday from the IfA Hilo parking lot on Aohoku Place in Hilo.

All three of the vehicles have federal license plates on them.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicles or the case should call the police department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Those with information can also contact Officer Donovan Kohara directly by calling 961-2272
