The Hawai’i Police Department reports that a 33-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after he attempted to force his way into an Ohai Street house in Hilo.

Police say residents thwarted the man’s efforts around 4:30 a.m.

The man, identified by authorities as Kawehi Linkee of Pahoa, was arrested and taken to the Hilo Police Station.

Linkee was charged with attempted unauthorized entry of a dwelling.

Police also charged Linkee with attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. The second charge involved an incident in Wainaku in September of last year. In the 2015 incident, police say a stranger was found riding a forklift on a farmer’s land but fled when the farmer arrived.

In total, Linkee’s bail was set at $20,000. He appeared for his initial court appearance on Monday.
