Police Identify Woman Killed in Saturday Night Collision, Arrest Driver

badgeA 22-year-old Pahoa woman killed in a single vehicle crash on Nanawale Boulevard Saturday evening has been identified.

The Hawai’i Police Department released the victim’s name Monday afternoon as Shyla N. Medeiros-Dutton of a Pahoa address.

In addition, HPD has made an arrest in connection to the incident.

Gary A. Simpkins, 22, was said to be the driver of the vehicle. He was reportedly arrested Sunday around 6:15 p.m. at the East Hawai’i Detention Center.

Police arrested Simpkins for Negligent Homicide I, Negligent Injury I, Accident-Death/Serious Injury, Give Information and Render Aid, two counts of Accident Vehicle/Property, and Notice of Accident.

Simpkins is being held at the East Hawai’i Detention Center as an investigation into the incident continued.
