PTA to Open for Pig, Goat, and Sheep Bow Hunting

huntingArmy officials will open several areas within Pohakuloa Training Area on April 2 and April 3 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for bow hunting of pigs, goats, and sheep.

The Humu’ula Unit, which includes training areas 1 through 4, the Menehune Unit, including training areas 5 and 6, and the Ahi Unit, training areas 9, 12 to 16, and 18 east, will be opened.

Hunters are required to check in and check out at one of the new Army check-in stations, located in the following areas:

Old Saddle Road Gate, across from the Mauna Kea State Park entrance.

Mile marker 49.5 gate on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, located about a half-mile from Mamalahoa Highway.

Gate 10, near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway.

All game mammal hunting activity at PTA follows State of Hawai’i regulations; refer to H.A.R.
Title 13, Chapter 123 “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting.”
Hunters with disabilities can contact the PTA Game Warden at 969-2429.
