TRAFFIC UPDATE: Closures Reported Along Highway 19

In addition to Highway 19 between the 9  and 12 mile markers, the Maulua Gulch is also reportedly closed.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira said multiple reports of ponding and flooding have been made.

Crews from the Hawai’i State Department of Transportation Highways Division are working to clear the roadways.

Highway 19 near between mile markers 9 and 12 in the Papaikou area has been closed.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that significant flooding in the area is occurring.

It is not currently known when the roadway will reopen.

A Flash Flood Warning, and a Flash Flood Watch are currently in effect.
