Highway 19 reopened Sunday at about 8:30 a.m.

The roadway, beginning at Bayfront Highway, was closed on Saturday evening from Pauahi Street through Highway 19 at Hau Street in the Wainaku area as a result of a downed utility pole.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense initially reported multiple downed poles. The information has since been corrected to just one pole.

Officials at first believed that the road would remain closed for the duration of the weekend, however, utility crews were able to complete necessary work earlier than anticipated.
