Man Arrested in Connection to January Honoli’i Shooting

badge 123A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection to an ongoing investigation by the Hawai’i Police Department into an early morning shooting that occurred in the Honoli’i area of Hilo on Jan. 31.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section arrested John Perez of Hilo at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday. The arrest was made on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.

Perez is currently being held at the Hilo police cellblock as detectives continue to investigate.

Anyone with information regarding the Jan. 31 incident or who may have witnessed the shooting within the Honoli’i lookout area just before 4:35 a.m. should contact Detective Clarence Davies by calling 961-2383 or e-mail [email protected], or Detective Todd Pataray by calling 961-2382 or e-mailing [email protected].
