Various road work projects will take place over the weekend.

The Umauma Bridge, Pahoa Roundabout, and an area in Hakalau near the 15 mile marker are all under a 24-hour traffic change period.

The Umauma Bridge, which is located near mile marker 16 on Highway 19, is undergoing bridge rehabilitation. Speed on the bridge is reduced to 20 miles per hour.

Alternating lane closures will take place on Highway 19 in the 15 mile marker area in Hakalau. The Speed limit is 25 mile per hour in the area.

In Pahoa, the Keaau-Pahoa Bypass Road in both directions, between Pahoa Marketplace and Kahakai Boulevard, is closed for the construction of the Pahoa Roundabout. Temporary traffic signals are installed to direct traffic at the Kahakai Boulevard and Pahoa Village Road intersection. Motorists are advised to drive through the detour with caution.

The Hawai’i County Department of Public Works also notes continued reconstruction work on Komohana Street, from Kukuau Street towards Waianuenue Avenue. The project involves the reconstruction of about 4,000 feet of roadway, traffic signal upgrades, pavement striping, and the replacement of utility valves and boxes. Alternating lane closures will be in effect in the area.
