Arrest Made in Case of Decomposed Body in HPP
A 34-year-old man has been arrested for murder.
Eric James Frontes Jr., who has no permanent address, was arrested Tuesday evening for the murder of an unidentified man whose body was found badly decomposed over the weekend in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
The Hawai’i Police Department said Tuesday that an autopsy conducted on the remains found that the death was a result of homicide.
Autopsy results determined that the body belonged to a male and the cause of death was due to gunshot wounds.
Area I Criminal Investigations Section Detectives are looking to use dental records and are working with a forensic odontologist to confirm the identity of the victim.
Officers executed a search warrant at a home on East Palai Street in Hilo Tuesday at 2:35 p.m., where they arrested Fontes on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.
While in custody, Fontes was arrested at 4 p.m. and is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree theft, ownership/possession prohibited, and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
No official charges have been made.
Fontes remains at the cellblock as detectives continue to investigate.
