Scams involving “Award Claim Notification” are drawing the attention of the Hawai’i Police Department.
Authorities say letters have been sent to Hawai’i residents claiming that the addressee has won money.
The letters come with a claim number and an authentic-looking check paid to the order of the recipient in the amount of thousands of dollars.
HPD reports that the letters have a phone number and instructions to call a “claims agent” in order to claim the total prize winnings, totalling more than $10,000.
Anyone who receives one of these letters should be cautious and warns that acting on the instructions could result in the loss of a significant amount of money.
