Man Dies Following Ocean View ‘Hit and Run’

badge 123A two-vehicle accident in Ocean View resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that officers responded to the Kona Drive and Paradise Parkway area of Ocean View after receiving a 7:15 p.m. call.

An unknown sedan-type vehicle was reportedly traveling north on Paradise Parkway when it failed to yield the right of way at the intersection with Kona Drive and collided with a black moped that had been driving west.

The driver of the sedan fled the scene before police could arrive.

Authorities identified the driver of the moped as Ling Oniel. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m.

An investigation led police to believe the sedan may have been a white 1992-1995 Honda Civic.

HPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a negligent homicide investigation.
