Martin Luther King Jr. Pixabay“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday marks the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In a statement, United Stated Senator Brian Schatz reflected on the importance on the holiday.

“Today, we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose dedication to peace, equality, and justice has helped shape our country and inspire generations,” Schatz said. “At a time when our country was suffering from intense racism, Dr. King’s message of compassion helped to heal and unite our nation.

“We must also remember that Dr. King fought not only for racial justice but also economic justice. He sought to create a society where all people would have good-paying jobs, affordable health care, and a quality education. As we continue to bring Dr. King’s dream to life, we must dedicate ourselves to the principles of kindness and equality.”
